Where to Find the Best Lobster Rolls in Maine
In the Pine Tree State, there is nothing more exciting to look forward to come summer than Maine lobster rolls. The griddled, buttered bun; the fresh, juicy lobster – it’s simple but unlike any other sandwich out there! The best part? Lobster rolls in Maine are typically found in a place where you can see the ocean, so it’s truly a meal with a view. Below, we’ve put together some of the best Maine lobster rolls you can find up and down the coast!
The Lobster Shack at Two Lights – Cape Elizabeth
The delicious lobster roll at the Lobster Shack at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth is only made more impressive by the stunning 180-degree ocean view. Their lobster roll is made with a fresh bun, big chunks of sweet lobster, and a dollop of mayo or butter – it’s truly the perfect size! And this iconic lobster shack is right down the road from our next must-try spot…
Bite Into Maine – Cape Elizabeth & Portland
Bite Into Maine is another lobster roll that comes with a side of stunning ocean views! This food truck, parked both at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth and at Allagash Brewing in Portland, offers a fun spin on the classic lobster roll. Overflowing with fresh lobster meat, you can choose from several flavor options. There is, of course, the “Maine-style roll” with mayonnaise and fresh chives, but you can also try the chipotle, wasabi or curry lobster rolls if you’re feeling adventurous!
Bob’s Clam Hut – Kittery
Bob’s Clam Hut is a Southern Maine staple that serves up an incredible lobster roll. In fact, this little seafood hut is so good it was even featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!
Located on Route 1 in Kittery, you can get the classic roll in two different sizes. It’s buttered, toasted and stuffed with local lobster meat – it even comes with a side of fries!
The Clam Shack – Kennebunk
At the Clam Shack in Kennebunk, you’ll find the traditional lobster roll with one minor difference – a round bun! Don’t worry, though, it’s still buttered, grilled and stuffed to the brim with sweet local lobster. This spot tends to get a little busy, but trust us when we say it’s worth the wait.
Eventide Oyster Co. – Portland
Eventide Oyster Co. definitely offers the trendiest version of the lobster roll we’ve found in Maine. Located in Portland, Eventide adds a unique spin to this classic meal – rather than a white roll and classic butter or mayo, they elevate it by using a Chinese steamed bun and brown butter vinaigrette. While untraditional, once you take a bite you’ll want to order more than one!
Red’s Eats – Wiscasset
Red’s Eats in Wiscasset dishes out Maine’s most notorious lobster roll, so if you see a line forming around the corner, don’t be scared by the wait – it goes relatively quickly! Plus, the view of the Sheepscot River makes for an incredible view while you anticipate your sandwich!
Red’s lobster roll is just a heaping, generous amount of sweet lobster meat (including whole tails and claws!) in a roll. No dressing, no fuss! You can opt to get drawn butter or extra-heavy mayo on the side, though we don’t think you’ll miss it if you don’t.
